Suzzette Tamez's Problem Solving Experience:

1. Biotechnology. The company I was working for needed to solve the problem of demonstrating bacterial cultures were present at the treatment systems we were selling for clients to see them in action. I came with the solution to buy a biosensor which will register the CO2 produced by bacteria.
2. Statistics. A friend was unable to analyze his field data for it the samples were taken without knowing what series of questions were to be answered.
   There were to many different variables and apparently no correlation between them. I suggested to use a different model for analysis which included space and time as well as dimension. This gave him an innovative way of interpreting his data.
3. Environment. In a community at the south-east of Mexico, the ocean water was polluted with E. coli which came from the tourist cruises visiting the coast two times a week. Though the community needed the tourists; I knew that if we prove it the community could get monetary help as part of a program they are compelled to follow by law. I suggested to take a water samples, before and after the cruise come to deck for at least a month. And send them analyzed for E.coli.
   We proved the cruises were contaminating and got the monetary help wanted which was used for environmental projects in the area.
4. Ineterpersonal. A very good friend of mine was having marital problems since their baby boy couldn't sleep at night. This was making their lives miserable because they couldn't cope with the everyday demands. I offered her a program I came up and apply to my own son. In 10 days the baby was going to bed at 8pm and sleeping through the night. Thus they recover pace and balance for a healthy relationship.
5. Environment. Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Veracruz. I suggested to use a form of carbon the Japanese invented. This encapsulates the oil and it is therefore easier to capture it.
6. Healthcare. A few friends have come to me with questions on natural remedies for their maladies. I have a very basic but good intuitive knowledge and understanding about how to read one's body. I've helped some of them with basic health problems offering a combination of diet, exercise and herbs.
7. Agriculture. A farmer in Hidalgo was having problems with his agricultural residues disposal. I came up with the solution of growing mushrooms using the residues as the source of carbohydrates. We looked for a third party who was interested and had lots of space and milk caws. He had trouble feeding them since their food was becoming expensive. I suggested using the enriched agricultural residues (where mushrooms grew) as their food source -high protein content.-
   Both were happy with the solutions offered and also making money (on the top of that) with the mushroom's fruiting body sells.
8. Marine Ecology. In the Caribbean people were concern on proving that TBT (Ttributil Toluene) was deceiving fish population. I suggested a study on the mollusks and the phenomena known as imposex. TBT being an endocrine disruptor will alter the sex of the mollusks changing females to males and males with deformed penis. This became a project of the University of Chetumal.
9. Energy. My Grandpa was complaining about the cost of heating water to shower. Together we built a solar water heater.
