I usually explore all possibilities. Even the ones that seem hopeless. I will go with it till the end of the line. And when the possible solution pose a new problem down the line, I solve it too. I won't stop till I hit a dead-end. This way I never dismiss possible solution that may seem impossible or undo-able at first.
