Brian Wright's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. WIth colleague Jeffrey Williams I developed a numerical model to assess the net increase in storage achieved by adding a barrel of oil the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, estimating the answer to be about one half. Answer supported well by subsequent experience of oil storage inthe United States.
  2. I devised an empirical economic strategy to show damages to a major meat producer/exporter from Hurricane Katrina, obtaining a favorable settlement from a set of major insurers.
  3. With colleague Lei Zhen I designed a method of evaluation of the value of individual patents in a set of patents
  4. I developed a numerical solution method for solving models of commodity storage with supply response
  5. I invented the solution method now often known as parametrized expectations
  6. I designed and was co-leader of a project to evaluate the cost of endowing major global food plant gene banks to perpetuity, culminating in the addition of the Svalbard Global Gene Bank to the set of global gene banks.
