There is a serious shortcoming in engineering innovation. Before CAD, engineers sketched their preliminary design solutions either on white boards or paper to develop and communicate their ideas. This was one of the most important steps in the development process. It needs to be again. The process of sketching is the bridge between the product requirements and the actual product design. It is the key to successful innovation.
