Problem Solver

Gerard Persoon

Areas Gerard Persoon is Knowledgeable in:

Infrastructure, operating systems, networks, databases, security

Techniques Gerard Persoon Uses:

- try to undertand the situation
- try to reproduce the problem
- transfer the reproduction of the problem to a smaller enviroment (like the test environment)
- analyse the problem with tools (like like process monitor, process explorer, wireshark, sql server profiler, grep)
- fix the problem (or have the supplier fix is)
- proof the solution indeed works
- implement/distribute the solution
simplify the problem, find a solution and adapt the solution to the real life problem

Gerard Persoon's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. I've analyzed several applications where the performance was bad. Using several tools like process monitor, process explorer, wireshark, sql server profiler, grep etc. I was able to figure out where the problem was and was able to solve the problem (sometimes by reporting the right details to the supplier)
  2. A large dutch bank wanted to upgrade their PC's to windows 7. A device which was used to access back-debit cards from the PC didn't work anymore because the driver was not compatible with windows 7. It was also giving blue screen errors on windows XP. The supplier didn't support the device anymore.
I was able to get a hold of the source and was able to find a capable programmer to upgrade the source. He was even able to fix the blue screen errors.
