Techniques Mark Shaw Uses:
In 2019, my company received Gold and Silver Edison awards for technologies/products that we licensed, incubated and commercialized. The Gold award was for a portable, battery-operated "Backpack Welder" that used novel battery technology. The Silver award was for a new sol-gel, organic/inorganic hybrid coating that has a large array of features/benefits and performance, not seen in one coating previously.

Mark Shaw's Problem Solving Experience:
- I developed a technology known as "Macroencapsulation" for safe disposal of radioactive and chemically hazardous waste (mixed waste). This was my first patent at age 23. It is now an approved EPA treatment technology and used by the Dept. of Energy at numerous sites.
- I co-developed a safe method for storage of the radioactively contaminated water from the Fukushima Tsunami disaster within 10 days of the incident and also a method for containing the radioactive dust coming out of the damaged reactors and buildings.
- I have created over 300 new products for spill containment, stormwater management, facility protection, construction compliance, oil spill clean-up and other environmental areas. Credited with starting the spill containment industry and one of the early pioneers in the start of the stormwater products market.
