Techniques Michael Mirto Uses:

Researching, analyzing, talking to knowledgeable people. Use of props to map out a project and/or conceptualize it.

Michael Mirto's Problem Solving Skills:

  1. Automotive: repairs/rebuilds all types of truck/car motors; designed a truck hoist system
  2. Aquaculture: part of a team that designed a large scale operation salt water clam seeding, cultivating and harvesting from Main
  3. Agriculture: Plant germination/food cultivation

Michael Mirto's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. The challenge: how to domestically farm raise salt water clams on a large scale. Solution: purchased 30 gallon coca cola syrup barrels, cut out the middle (created open large tubes), used fine netting on bottom of tubes and reinforced the periphery of the netting. Took clams from petri dishes and sprinkled them on the nets. Lined barrels up on the shore, pumped salt water through the barrels and cultivated the clams. After they grew to 1/4 - 3/8" , transferred clams out to the sand bars. Designed and built a type of tiller that could till the sandbar to kill predators. Seeded the sandbars with the clams. Harvested baby clams and planted them up and down the coast to grow for food industry.
