Michael Smith's Problem Solving Experience:
- • Supervised operation, construction, optimization and experimental program of 50M lb/yr pilot plant aromatic oxidative dehydrogenation. Completed experimental and modeling reaction engineering projects.
- • Led laboratory acetylene hydrogenation catalyst testing, plant implementation and start-up team. Designed acetylene hydrogenation reactors in Texas, Netherlands, Argentina, and Spain. Received 5 technical awards for hydrogenation and process improvements that generated ~ $20MM in savings and six sigma Green Belt Certification.
- • Led catalyst technology team responsible for managing the overall effort to optimize the 35 olefins, aromatics and dienes catalytic systems within ten different sites globally.
- • Identified feasible opportunities for enhanced oil recovery by directing technical option development for executive leadership sponsored team on carbon capture and sequestration.
- Developed coking reactor model for styrene production, on temporary assignment at University of Ghent-Belgium.
- • Secured $15M savings by orchestrating implementation of new Epoxy products, managing portfolio of 24 production trials though alignment of multiple functions.
- • Delivered $10.9M savings by mobilizing team that led stage gating of 20 projects into realization in 2017 through new process and product implementation. Active collaboration with business manufacturing, R&D, and business leaders.
