In order to predict epidemics and test mitigation methods, mathematical models of transmission dynamics are used. We gave an exposition on the conventional SIR dynamic disease transmission model and underlined the comparison between the transmission of diseases and an autocatalytic reaction with catalyst deactivation. This comparison connects chemical kinetic and disease modeling fields so that the two groups of study can share their expertise. In addition, the analogy may be a basis for an interesting, experiential approach to chemical kinetics learning in the schoolroom (Sucre-Rosales et al., 2020) and explain how concepts in one area can translate, help and generate insight into/in another
