Areas Phil Sheppard is Knowledgeable in:

I am particularly knowledgeable and interested in all clean and cleaner technologies. Because I start with an abstracted characterisation of the technical or commercial problem and Inventive Principles which can be applied to all technical problems and many commercial problems, I can go some distance towards solutions and then need domain knowledge. I have domain knowledge in the areas I have ticked, but not to specialist levels, and I know when a specialist is needed. I can then find them.

Techniques Phil Sheppard Uses:

Systematic Innovation (www.systematic-innovation.com) which is largely TRIZ but with added tools.

Principles of green chemistry

Biomimicry

Cradle to Cradle Certified(TM) Product Standard

Phil Sheppard's Problem Solving Skills:

  1. Writing - Describing, characterising and communicating both the problem and the solutions in question
  2. Manage and facilitate
  3. Analysis - to break down and understand the system in question and associated merits and demerits of possible solutions.
  4. Thinking - Lateral thinking
  5. My skills can be applied to each of the categories I have selected. I have knowledge of each of the categories selected.
  6. Researcher
  7. Creativity - for concept generation and concept interpretation into actual solutions

Phil Sheppard's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. I have designed a novel local atmospheric CO2 capture and transport system which I believe could be commercially viable. It uses known technologies but in a new combination.
  2. I designed biorefinery processes for converting the organic byproducts of cultivation of a tropical product into high value chemicals and materials. (A bioscientist colleague confirmed my approach and provided the bottom level details.)
  3. I identified several technologies for identifying 6,000 disparate metal components in an intact complex assembly (i.e. without any dismantling) and described how they could be applied by the client.
  4. I analysed a patent examiner's negative comments on a patent application for a pastry dividing and sizing machine and proposed solutions which enabled the patent to be granted.
  5. With a food technologist, I developed recipes for cakes sweetened with natural low Glycemic Index substances to replace sucrose and artificial sweeteners.
