Richard Borschel

Areas Richard Borschel is Knowledgeable in:

Laboratory design and safety, containment systems, decontamination systems, Aerobiology, animal testing in vivo and in vitro diagnostics, infectious diseases, threat agent analysis and virulence testing, correlates of protection, Pk/Pd analysis, statistical analysis, ARIMA, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, technology requirements, automated systems, remote monitoring and alternative energy for home applications.

Techniques Richard Borschel Uses:

I use proven systems methods which analyze a problem for maximum gain on minimum expense. Towards these ends I am often to take off the shelf products and apply them towards new applications with little or no modifications. I am also adept at designing and engineering complex systems for custom applications. I use a variety of methods for hypothesis testing including brain-storming and means-end testing. I frequently utilize out of the box conceptual thinking for novel solutions to problems.

Richard Borschel's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. I have developed a closed loop system for deep well drilling for thermal water for home heating and designed and engineered novel low temperature generation systems and large capacity LiFePO4 battery systems for off-grid applications.
  2. I have developed in vivo systems using animal modeling for new threat virulence testing for novel biological threats and emerging infectious diseases to determine and assess threat in human populations.
  3. I have designed and developed containment laboratories with large animal capabilities to conduct research in high consequence threat agents at the ABSL-3 level. I have proven expertise and an exceptional safety record in conducting technically demanding research in large non-human primate models for aerosol infectious disease testing in minimal time. I have develope and implemented sophisticated remote monitoring systems to derive maximal data from research animals.
  4. I have 40 years of military medical research experience applying my skills to complex problems. I have designed studies with successful grantsmanship for large awards funding research for the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense for design and testing of vaccines, diagnostics, novel antimicrobiological drugs, complex nanotech based diagnostics, in vitro correlates of protection, pathogenesis and virulence testing in multiple animal models. Towards these ends I have developed a wide array of testing methodologies and instrumentation to include physiologic parameter recording from implanted radiotelemetry devices, cage mounted measurements, and sealed compartment systems for plethsysmography. I have designed novel particle generation and measurement systems for small particle inhalation studies. In alternative energy I have designed and utilized both on and off-grid systems for home use of photovoltaic systems which are incorporated with wind turbines.
