Scott Anderson

Areas Scott Anderson is Knowledgeable in:

Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology, drug development

Techniques Scott Anderson Uses:

PCR (16S and real time), MIC, MBC, antibiotic sensitivity by disk and broth microdilution, time-kill assays, frequency of resistance, protein binding, post-antibiotic effect, macrophage assays, time-kill assays, demonstration of auxotrophy by use of minimal agar medium. I currently employ all techniques used in a modern hospital microbiology setting.

Scott Anderson's Problem Solving Skills:

  1. Antibiotics and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance
  2. Pre-Clinical drug development
  3. Clinical (Hospital) microbiology

Scott Anderson's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. I developed an in-vitro assay for assessing degradation of antibiotic activity by tissue homogenates relevant to a particular antibiotic / animal tissue combination.
  2. I performed in-vitro antibiotic characterization (both novel and off-patent compounds) for evaluation as candidates for human use by a novel route of administration. Assays included, MIC, MBC, time-kill assays, frequency of resistance, protein binding, post-antibiotic effect, macrophage assays, and support of in-house SAR by MIC assays. (Abstracts and further information available upon request).
  3. I planned and executed a sreies of experiments for testing the efficacy of antibiotics against M. tuberculosis in low-oxygen conditions (Nature 405:22 962-966)
  4. I characterized and first described a novel form of bacterial small colony variant seen in cystic fibrosis patients ( J Clin Microbiol 45:2 529-535)
  5. I developed a novel disk assay for characterization of amino acid auxotrophy in bacteria.
