water conservation sprinkler system

Summary:
The basic idea is incorporating a loop into existing or new automated sprinkler systems that will shut off the water to a particular zone if ground moisture is already sufficient. It would also incorporate a thermostat shutoff that could prevent sprinkler operation when the temperature exceeds a certain mark.

Full Description:
This idea would help conserve water that is otherwise wasted by automatic sprinkler systems. The idea is to incorporate a simple loop into the system that measures ground moisture and is capable of shutting off a sprinkler zone if a predetermined moisture level is found. A similar loop would receive information from a thermostat set to water only during optimal temperatures as well. This would eliminate automated sprinkler systems from operating when it is raining or where a sprinkler head is malfunctioning, or the ground moisture is already sufficient, or the ambient temperature is simply too hot for sufficient ground saturation. It could easily be marketed not only to the individual consumer, but through County water districts so that if a permit is pulled to put in a sprinkler system, you must attach this conservation device. The device would result in lower water consumption, reduced water utility bills, improved lawn maintenance, and possible draught condition improvement. No new technology is necessary as existing technology could easly be incorporated into the device.
