Sterile Tie-wraps are used in the same fashion as stainless steel cables in the stabilization of fractures. The advantage of a tie-wrap is: 1) being flat, force is dispersed across a broader surface of bone as opposed to cables which concentrates force on a point, 2) the tie-wrap is radiolucent and does not obscure the fracture line on x-ray
