3D-Printed Device Allows Smartphone Diagnostics

3D-Printed Device Allows Smartphone Diagnostics
Aug-12-17
An innovative new 3D-printed device would let smartphones perform lab-grade diagnostics.

The TRI (transmission reflectance intensity) Analyzer, from a team at the University of Illinois, allows the smartphone to perform lab-grade diagnostics that would normally require large and expensive instruments. The device operates by accessing the smartphone’s camera, turning it into a high-performance spectrometer able to illuminate and analyze a sample fluid. According to the team, several samples can be analyzed in sequence, offering a point of health option for remote or impoverished areas.
