3D Printer Could Liberate Architects

3D Printer Could Liberate Architects
Feb-28-15
A 3D printer able to create molds for concrete as large as a phone booth could make it easier for architects to achieve their creative dreams.

The room-sized printer was developed as part of a collaboration between 3Dealise and Bruil, who claim the device can create a range of structures and shapes, including half-open mesh, irregular curves and "ornamental craftwork." The molds are treated so the concrete will separate from them easily, and can be removed with pressurized water once the concrete has set.

The printer can also be used to create molds for other materials, such as iron and steel, and the team is currently investigating ways to cast plastics and rubbers.
