The 3Doodler pen works by heating 3 mm ABS/PLA filament to 518 F, allowing the user to sketch their doodles in the air or on surfaces as it extrudes the liquid plastic. The plastic cools quickly and solidifies into a stable structure that can either stand alone or be combined with other doodles to make more intricate designs. For adventurous doodlers, the team plans to release 3Doodler stencil kits that will help inspire and guide novice doodlers.

The 3Doodler Pen has far surpassed its $30,000 funding goal on Kickstarter, already raising over $700,000 within hours of launch.
