A new device able to absorb the vibrations of a badly placed swing may help take some of the sting out of baseball bats.
As many baseball players know, hitting the ball too low or to high along the bat can cause a cascade of strong vibrations painful enough to put children or older people off the game entirely. Dr. Daniel Russell's device, located in the knob of the baseball bat, features a mass of springs that can be tuned to suit the length of the bat. This ability to fine tune the springs to suit the bat allows the device to quickly eliminate the vibrations responsible for the bat’s sting.
The device has already been incorporated into the youth and senior league bats made by Marucci Sports.
