Abundant Robotics Apple Picking Robot

Abundant Robotics Apple Picking Robot
Apr-01-19
The apple picking robot from Abundant Robotics relies on machine vision to identify and harvest the delicate fruit.

The robot navigates the rows of apple trees with LIDAR, where it uses machine vision to recognize the ripe apples in real time as it moves. When a ripe apple is detected, the robot raises its vacuum tube arm and ‘slurps’ the apple from the tree. The apple is transported by a conveyor into a bin for later collection. The apple picking robot (currently working in New Zealand) can travel the rows 24 hours a day, harvesting the newly ripened apple on the next pass.
