Acoustic Shear Poration Enables Gene Therapy

Acoustic Shear Poration Enables Gene Therapy
Mar-03-18
The Acoustic Shear Poration (ASP) method offers a safer way to deliver genetic material into cells.

Developed by the team at Washington University in St. Louis, the ASP method relies on using ultrasound waves and mechanical force to create pores in the membrane of the cell through which large molecules can be inserted. This non-chemical, non-viral method is safer than conventional techniques, and could also be potentially scaled up for large-scale manufacturing of therapeutic cells, according to researcher J. Mark Meacham.
