An inexpensive wearable able to track hydration levels could help lay people detect and treat dehydration in young children.
Developed by a team at ETH, the AMBICA (Accurate Model for Bio-Composition Analysis) is designed to be easy to use, and is made up of a pair of devices that wrap around the arm and leg of the child. Once in place, the wearable straps send a small electrical current into the skin in order to measure the body’s resistance to the current. Based on that data, the system can then determine the hydration level of the wearer and translate it to an LED color indicator, which will change from green to red based on hydration levels.
