The hybrid air/ground drones from MIT could offer another angle on flying cars.
Designed with versatility in mind, the quadcopter drones were outfitted with a set of powered wheels and the team’s path-planning algorithms, which ensured the drones were able to swarm together without crashing into one another. Although the wheels cut down on the drone’s flight time, the added advantages of ground travel offset the difference.
Besides being able to access more areas, the team believes the ground/air drones could offer a new way to approach flying car design.
