Airwriting Glove Transforms Gestures to Text

Airwriting Glove Transforms Gestures to Text
Mar-03-13
Write your text messages in the air with the “airwriting” glove—a system able to decipher letters drawn in the air and covert them to digital text.

Integrated accelerometers and gyroscopes detect hand movement, transmitting the data wirelessly to a computer’s pattern recognition software. The software determines if the user is actually air-writing (instead of cooking of playing air guitar) and then identifies the individual letters using statistical models. The system has an error rate of 11 percent, but that rate will drop as it recognizes an individual’s unique airwriting style.

It seems like using sign language, but having to sign every letter. That would be quite cumbersome. If it allowed a shorthand that would interpret entire words with one gesture, it would be much better. If it used an existing sign language it would be even better. The deaf could communicate with the hearing very easily.
