An innovative bio-plastic made from algae could offer a commercially viable alternative to petroleum-based products.
Developed by a pair of Dutch designers, Eric Klarenbeek and Maartje Dros, the 3D-printed bioplastic begins with cultivated algae that is dried and processed to create a liquid biopolymer. That polymer can then be used to print a range of objects, from shampoo bottles to furniture.
