AlterEgo Headset Communicates Silent Commands

AlterEgo Headset Communicates Silent Commands
Apr-07-18
Send silent commands to your computer with the ‘mind-reading’ AlterEgo headset.

Developed by a team from MIT, the AlterEgo headset relies on an array of electrodes that scan the jaw to pick up the tiny, neuromuscular signals created when a person thinks about verbalizing words. This ‘subvocalization’ is used to send commands to the paired device, while sound is transmitted to the user via a pair of bone-conduction headphones.

According to the team, the AlterEgo system could be useful in a noisy environment or where silence is important, as well as giving people who’ve lost their voice a way to verbalize.
