APO Smart Exoskeleton Prevents Falls

May-16-17 The APO smart exoskeleton is able to predict and prevent falls, offering a breakthrough in wearable machines.

Still in the prototype phase, the Active Pelvis Orthosis exoskeleton is meant to be worn from the waist down, where it will help balance the wearer via a system of small motors and soft braces. When the device detects an “unexpected slippage,” the APO will increase stiffness at the appropriate joints to counteract the slip and prevent a fall.
