ASC System Allows for Implants in a Still-Beating Heart

ASC System Allows for Implants in a Still-Beating Heart
Sep-27-13
The ASC system from Apica Cardiovascular allows surgeons to deliver therapeutic devices into the heart while it is still beating.

The Access, Stabilization and Closure system (ASC) can be used with minimally invasive surgical techniques to deliver prosthetic aortic and mitral valves through the apex of the beating heart. Designed for patients with structural heart disease, the ASC system seals and stabilizes the heart tissue during device delivery and standardizes access and closure, reducing procedure time and technical challenges. Because the access point is sealed without conventional sutures, blood loss and the chance for an air embolism are both minimized, and the system should provide doctors with a new way to treat heart disease safely and in a cost-effective manner.
