Autobike Does the Shifting for You

Sep-22-13 The Autobike helps simplify bike-riding by automatically shifting gears based on the rider’s cadence.

The features a SRAM Dynamo front hub that harnesses the spin of the front wheel to generate the electricity that powers the bike’s sensors and servo motor. As the sensors measure the rider’s cadence, the bike’s electronics trigger the servo motor to shift gears in order to maintain the steady pedaling rhythm. Inclines are detected by an onboard accelerometer, causing the bike to shift automatically into a lower gear.

The rider can also choose between three different pedaling speeds either by pressing a set of buttons on the bike or through a smartphone app.
