Autofocal Lenses Adjust as Focus Changes

Autofocal Lenses Adjust as Focus Changes
Jun-15-18
The Autofocal glasses from Stanford University focus like the human eye to automatically adjust for vision deficits.

The glasses, which are a bit clunky in their current form, are designed for people who suffer from presbyopic vision, in which the eye cannot shift its focus to near objects. To address this common issue, the Autofocal glasses track the wearer’s eye movements, which are analyzed by a depth camera to determine the distance being viewed. That information then triggers the device’s external mechanism to focus the liquid-filled lenses as required.

Though still in the prototype phase, the Autofocal glasses have been tested on volunteers, who reported sharper vision than when compared to their standard prescription lenses.
