Autofocus Contact Lens

Autofocus Contact Lens
Mar-17-16
Inspired by the eyes of fish and insects, researchers have created an autofocus contact lens that could improve near-vision focus.

The lens gets its focusing power from an array of tiny, light-collecting glass protrusions containing microscopic cups lined with aluminum that reflects light onto the sidewalls. This array would be embedded in a flexible lens, where an electric current could be used to trigger the lens to shift shape and, therefore, focus. An integrated solar cell storing energy within a nanostructure network would power the device.
