The Azura wave energy-harvesting system has recently been installed off the coast of Oahu, becoming the first grid-connected wave energy device in the U.S.
The system features the Azura, a 45-ton, floating device that can harvest the energy from both vertical and horizontal wave movements (most generators only collect the energy from one motion). During its 12-month trial program, the Azura will be studied for its efficiency and likelihood of commercialization.
