Battery-Free Eye-Tracking System

Battery-Free Eye-Tracking System
Oct-31-18
Solar-powered eye-tracking glasses could pave the way to seeing the technology applied to more devices.

Developed by a team from Dartmouth College, the eye-tracking system is made up of a standard pair of eyeglass frames fitted with solar cells on the arms. These cells power the system’s electronics, which include near-infrared LEDs, a microprocessor, and photodiodes. As the LEDs illuminate the eye from different directions, the photodiodes detect the reflected light to identify the pupil’s position in real time.

The Dartmouth system requires much less power than conventional systems, and can harvest power from interior lights while also being simpler to incorporate into existing glasses.
