A stronger, more resilient tooth filling material features the same protective compound used in decks and car bumpers.
Created by a team from the Oregon Health and Science University, the filling material includes thiourethane, used as a protective coating for decks and cars, and is said to be twice as strong as conventional materials. The team also developed a new adhesive, used to hold the filling in place, that is much more resistant to bacteria, water and enzyme damage.
Stronger fillings result in less trips to the dentist as well as improved health, saving money and helping prevent more serious problems.
