Bicycle Helmet Offers HUD, Aims for Seamless Navigation

Bicycle Helmet Offers HUD, Aims for Seamless Navigation
Jul-08-15
The HUD bicycle helmet from the Future Cities Catapult team aims to make biking safer and more fun by supplying riders with seamless navigational information.

Still in the prototype phase, the HUD helmet would feature a drop-down visor containing the augmented reality and HUD system. The systems would be triggered by push notifications, and the team imagines that an array of icons could help make the process simpler and more streamlined.

The design team believes the HUD prototype is a step toward creating a seamless interface that “essentially disappears over time,” allowing the rider to pay attention to the environment around them. To that end, they have been working on other devices, including a handlebar-mounted sensor that gauges air quality and directs the rider to less polluted areas.
