Biodegradable Bag Made from Shrimp Shells

Biodegradable Bag Made from Shrimp Shells
Jan-22-17
A biodegradable plastic bag made of shrimp shells could also help keep foods fresher.

Designed with the specific needs of Egypt in mind, the shrimp-based plastic was created by teams from the University of Nottingham and Nile University in Egypt using chitosan made from shrimp shells—another source of waste in the country. The material is not only biocompatible, it also absorbs oxygen, which could help to extend the foods’ shelf life.
