Biolife4D Prints Working Heart Tissue

Jul-02-18 Biolife4D has announced a breakthrough with their ability to print human cardiac tissue.

The team has printed a cardiac patch that contains the same cells that make up the human heart. This patch is the first of its kind to contain multiple human heart cell types as well as preliminary vascularization—integral to creating a functional, living patch—and could be used to help repair hearts suffering from a loss of myocardial contractability.

The team plans to continue development on the patch as well as other components, such as valves, blood vessels, and even a mini-heart.
