Blood Test Detects Concussion

Blood Test Detects Concussion
Feb-18-18
The Banyan Brain Trauma Indicator blood test for concussion has been approved by the FDA.

Tested and approved by the FDA as part of its Breakthrough Devices Program, the Banyan Brain Trauma Indicator detects a possible concussion by measuring protein amounts in the patient’s blood. Specifically, the test measures two biomarkers—UCH-L1 and GFAP—which have been shown to elevate in patients with intracranial lesions. The test takes between three and four hours to complete, and clinical studies have shown the blood test to be 97.5 percent effective in detecting lesions, and 99.6 percent effective in detecting patients that do not have a potential concussion.
