A new jetpack design concept, called the Body Jet, could be a step toward bringing jetpacks to the public.
The design, from Marc Newson, takes comfort into consideration with its padded armrests and retractable landing gear. A dual joystick system would control the single large engine and a patented, personal gyroscope would help to keep the pack upright. The Body Jet could carry enough fuel for up to an hour of flight time, with the altitude limit set by the fuel requirements and the available oxygen.
According to Newson, he envisions the concept as "a small object you could strap yourself into - which is not a new idea and was tried as long ago as the 1950s, but no one has succeeded in making a commercial reality or even managed to do it cleverly, not to mention with good looks."
