BonAlive Putty Fills Bone Gaps

BonAlive Putty Fills Bone Gaps
Dec-01-13
The BonAlive putty bone graft substitute is ready to use, and can be delivered directly to the bone without any additional mixing or preparation.

Developed by BonAlive Biomaterials, the putty recently received the CE Mark of approval for its use in the treatment of voids and gaps in bone. The putty has been optimized for particularly demanding trauma and orthopedic surgery, and is made up of bioactive glass granules and a synthetic binder. After the putty has been injected into the bone, the binder will hold the glass granules together temporarily before being absorbed. The glass granules are then left behind, allowing tissue to grow between them as the bone regenerates.

Bones live speed up healing process ? Can we use in bone grafting
Posted by Iqbal Asif on December 4, 2013
What advantages does the use of "bioactive glass" as compared to the use of pulverized bone or other bioactive materials? How does this formulation differ from another bioactive glass formulation disclosed in US Patent 8288344, granted to another company?
Thanks for your reply.

We have been using similar products in our field for decades (periodontics/oral surgery). The problem is that it becomes mainly nonvital space filler that doesn't really increase strength compared to bone allograft, and definitely doesn't facilitate osseointegration of implants which is one of the most frequent reasons we graft. If the patient doesn't have a problem with it, I always choose bone auto or allograft materials.
