Bottle Charger Charges Cell Phones with Boiling Water

Bottle Charger Charges Cell Phones with Boiling Water
Feb-22-13
The Bottle Charger, developed by a team in Kenya, can charge a smart phone with boiling water and a tiny turbine.

More than 200 million cellphone users in Africa do not have electricity, and must walk long distances to charging stations. The bottle charger works by harnessing changes in temperature, powering a cell phone in about 30 minutes with just one cup of boiling water. It features a miniature Blackbeard Unidirectional Constant Turbine, which responds to the changes in air pressure within the plastic bottle. In addition to providing a source of electricity for people in remote areas, the Bottle Charger also makes use of a plastic water bottle that could otherwise go to waste.

The Bottle Charger project is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo.
