Breath Test for Opiods

Breath Test for Opiods
Oct-07-19
A non-invasive breath test for opioids could improve the care of chronic pain patients and help reduce illegal drug use.

The test was developed by a team from UC Davis, and relies on a specialized collection device that condenses the droplets in the breath. Those droplets are then frozen and stored for testing by mass spectrometry, which can identify the compounds in the samples with an accuracy similar to that of standard blood tests. The developers believe the breath test could help ensure patients are taking and metabolizing the correct dosage of drugs, as well detect cases of illegal drug use.
