Breathing System Reduces Need for Ventilators

Breathing System Reduces Need for Ventilators
Apr-06-20
Materialise has developed a technology that can provide positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) to the lungs without the use of a true ventilator.

The design consists of 3D-printed connector that holds together a PEEP valve, a mask, and a filter, and needs only a source of oxygen to produce sufficient pressure to help a patient breathe.

Although not a true ventilator, it may help patients that need some pressure but are not critical. The design is non-invasive and patients wearing it do not spread germs.

The Materialise Passive NIP (Non-Invasive PEEP) is now being fast-tracked through the regulatory process.
