Brightlamp App Detects Concussions in a Flash

Brightlamp App Detects Concussions in a Flash
Jun-03-17
The Brightlamp smartphone app can diagnose a concussion in about fifteen seconds.

The Brightlamp app detects a concussion by measuring how the iris responds to light. The app relies on the smartphone’s camera and flash, which shines a light into the eye, allowing the camera to capture the dilation of the pupil. That image is then sent to the cloud, where it is analyzed to detect the signs of a concussion.

According to the team, the Brightlamp app has an accuracy of about 98 percent, and can even be used by the patient as a self-test. The app is currently under FDA review.
