Burnt Wood Water Filter

Burnt Wood Water Filter
Nov-16-17
An innovative filter made of burnt wood could increase the efficiency of solar steam generation.

Solar steam generation is used to purify water by heating the liquid until it rises through a filter on the surface, allowing the steam to be collected as purified water. As an alternative to graphite or copper filters, a team from the University of Maryland has been experimenting with using different types of carbonized wood (the blackened wood absorbs heat better). In tests, the natural channels of the wood allowed the water to rise naturally to the surface, while also resisting salt buildup.
