A new impact-sensing cap for sports players makes it easy to monitor impacts to the head and can be used with or without a helmet.
The cap, developed by Reebok and MC10, is made up of a tight-fitting skullcap embedded with an array of sensors and stretchable electronics. LED lights on the cap flash red, yellow or green depending upon the severity of the impact, providing a quick, visual clue to parents and coaches.
While there are impact sensing helmets on the market already, the cap differs in that it can be worn alone and is less expensive, making it more accessible to schools and youth programs.
