CAPE Portable Cleanroom

Many research and manufacturing processes require a sterile, controlled environment, but typical cleanrooms are expensive and fixed. To offer a portable—and affordable—option, the team from Fraunhofer created the CAPE, a tent-like structure that can be assembled on site to provide a sterile environment. The CAPE buildings range in size from under a foot square to up to 36 x 39.4 x 23 ft., and can be assembled in under an hour.

The development team believes the CAPE could have applications in an array of industries, such as automotive and food, as well as function as a mobile operating room in disaster zones.
