CatClo Additive Lets Clothes Clean the Air

CatClo Additive Lets Clothes Clean the Air
Jun-30-14
The CatClo liquid can be added to the wash to turn a piece of fabric into a catalytic surface, allowing the wearer to clean the air simply by wearing their clothes.

Proposed by Helen Storey and Tony Ryan of Catalytic Clothing, the CatClo liquid would contain nanoparticles of titanium dioxide that would be deposited in the clothing's fibers during the normal laundry process. Titanium dioxide has long been known to create free radicals when exposed to light, which in turn react with water to create hydrogen peroxide that renders many airborne pollutants harmless.

According to the developers, the air-cleaning effect would be increased as more people used the product, and the population of a large city wearing CatClo-treated clothing could remove up to three tons of nitrogen oxide pollution daily.
