Cellulose-Based Transparent Plastic

Cellulose-Based Transparent Plastic
Jun-01-19
A biodegradable plastic suitable for food wrap decomposes in two years with some help from microorganisms.

The plastic was developed by the team from KTU using cellulose and is safe for food contact as well as transparent—a previous challenge for biodegradable plastics researchers. According to lead researcher Dr. Paulius Pavelas Danilovas, the key to the plastic’s development was non-toxic composites that will cause cellulose to become fluid without the need for heat.
