Cellulose Naturbeads Provide Plastic Replacement

Cellulose Naturbeads Provide Plastic Replacement
Aug-22-19
The biodegradable microbeads from Naturbeads offer an eco-friendly replacement to the plastic versions still found in some cosmetics.

Developed by a team from the University of Bath, the Naturbeads microbeads are made from cellulose—a naturally occurring material. Liquid cellulose is pressed through tiny holes in a membrane to create droplets, which are then detached from the membrane using vegetable oil. After the beads are collected and cleaned, they can be used in place of the plastic versions, performing the same functions but with much less environmental damage.
