Cesium 133 Atomic Wristwatch

Cesium 133 Atomic Wristwatch
Oct-06-13
The Cesium 133 wristwatch prototype from Bathys is equipped with its own self-contained atomic clock, guaranteeing accuracy to one second in 1000 years.

Although there a many atomic watches on the market, they do not feature their own, embedded atomic clock, instead maintaining accuracy via radio signals sent from a central atomic clock. The watch contains a single chip that holds a laser, heater, sealed cavity of cesium gas, microwave filter and photodiode detector, and, according to Bathys Hawaii founder, Dr. John Patterson, keeps time "using the exact same principle of counting hyperfine lines of excited cesium 133 atoms used by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).”
